Fall Fest follows in and builds on the tradition of our highly successful Autumn Fest

BROOKVILLE, Ohio — Join the Montgomery Soil & Water Conservation District for Fall Fest, a free event that features family friendly activities, kids games, pony rides, displays and speakers. Fall Fest follows in and builds on the tradition of our highly successful Autumn Fest, where more than 3,000 people joined the fun last year. Fall Fest is on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New for Fall Fest is the site at our Sycamore Conservation Education Demonstration Farm at 3225 N. Lutheran Church Rd., Trotwood, Ohio 45426, which is near the corner of Wolf Creek Pike and N. Lutheran Church Rd. Also new is the combining of the event with our Annual Meeting and Board of Supervisors Election. Parking, admission and activities are all still FREE, thanks to our sponsors and partners. Several Food Trucks will be on hand that are sure to satisfy.

Another new feature is the addition of a ‘Speakers Tent’ with local experts speaking on a variety of conservation related topics such as forestry, wildlife for homeowners, wildlife for hunters, cover crops, recycling, conservation planning and Natural Resources Conservation Service programs. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to enjoy Native American music from “Thunder with Hand” Cherokee Southern Drum group during the event.

Many of your favorites from past years will be there too. There will be plenty to do for adults and kids of all ages. Highlights include: pony rides, hay rides, kids games, antique farm equipment, farm animals, birds of prey, chainsaw carving, fly fishing demos, conservation and wildlife demos, food trucks, farmers market vendors, sheep shearing and more.

Watch an old-fashioned steam engine power a threshing machine from the early 1900s and see a sawmill in action as it takes logs and cuts them into boards. Kids will have the unique opportunity to ride behind a mini-steam engine in antique style wagons. Tour the soil trailer with your kids to see what goes on under the ground, and come visit us at our Montgomery SWCD table to make a craft that will help your yard bloom.

Voting for the Board of Supervisors is open during the event from noon to 4 p.m. Each of the five members on our Board of Supervisors serves a three-year term and then may run again if they would like to continue. Voters must be residents or landowners, firms, and/or corporations that own land or occupy land in Montgomery County and are 18 years of age and older.

More information on the Board of Supervisors candidates, their backgrounds with the Montgomery SWCD, a little bit about them, their reasons for wanting to serve on our Board, and the legal notice details who can vote and the ways you can vote can be found in our Fall 2017 newsletter at www.MontgomerySWCD.org. Visit our website or call the Montgomery SWCD office at 937-854-7645 with questions and to get an absentee ballot request form.

We look forward to seeing you for a fun, free day at the farm. Come out and play on the farm, vote for our Board of Supervisors, bring your friends, and make some new ones.

— Montgomery SWCD
