MANCHESTER, Iowa — It’s no denying popcorn is a favorite American treat, Jon Ramaekers and Jenna Peters were guest speakers at the Delaware County Master Gardeners second Mondays in March and shared their love and story about growing and producing popcorn in Iowa. A large crowd came out on Monday, March 9th to listen to Jon and Jenna owners of Farmer’s Best Popcorn, a seed to shelf popcorn operation in Worthington, Iowa. The couple shared the challenges of moving and establishing the business in Eastern Iowa after they purchased it from Tom Decker of Rockwell City, Iowa. They are beginning their second year of operation and plan to grow the business to 50-60 acres of popcorn this year. Everyone that attended was given a free take home bag of Farmer’s Best Popcorn courtesy of Jon and Jenna.
The Mondays in March series, presented by the Delaware County Master Gardeners, offers educational programs that are open to the public. Each Monday evening throughout the month at 7:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Manchester. The lecture series is designed to both entertain and educate anyone who is interested in gardening.
