JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Soybeans welcomes new addition, director of agronomy and research Dr. Eric Oseland, to its staff. Effective March 1, Oseland will assume the position as the new lead for agronomic research projects for the organization.

Oseland will work with the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council (MSMC) on the selection and oversight of funded projects that will be most impactful to Missouri soybean farmers. This includes managing the evaluation and selection of the plant breeding and biotech research projects as well as the applied agronomic projects funded by Missouri’s checkoff.

In addition to managing the portfolio of research and agronomic projects, Oseland will serve as the staff liaison between the North Central Soybean Research Program (NCSRP) and the Mid-South Soybean Board (MSSB). Oseland will have a high level of interaction with the University of Missouri – Columbia, other state universities, industry leaders, state and federal agencies, varied commodity organizations and fellow qualified state soybean boards (QSSBs).

“I believe Eric will provide Missouri soybean farmers with valuable direction and insights in today’s most useful and practical agronomic practices,” said Gary Wheeler, Missouri Soybeans CEO and executive director. “His skill set and background will help our organizations and strategic partners continue to meet our mission and vision, to empower farmers through innovation.”

Oseland is a graduate of Southern Illinois University – Carbonale where he received his Bachelor of Science in crop, soil and environmental management. Oslenad has a Master of Science and PhD from the University of Missouri – Columbia in weed science, where he worked directly with Dr. Kevin Bradley on research projects funded by Missouri soybean farmers’ checkoff dollars.

During his academic career, he conducted research on herbicide resistant weed management, off-target herbicide movement, cover crops, integrated weed management strategies and more. Due to his research, Oseland was first recipient of the Foundation for Soy Innovation Scholarship.

“This role provides opportunity to aid the farmer in best on-farm, agronomic practices, which in turn helps build their operations’ legacy – the greatest return on investment,” said Dr. Oseland. “The Missouri checkoff is investing in some of the most cutting-edge technology and innovations, and I look forward to helping manage and expand that portfolio.”

Oseland joins Missouri Soybeans from Bayer CropScience where he worked as a crop protection technology development representative.

The Missouri Soybean Association is a statewide membership organization working to increase the profitability of Missouri soybean farmers through advocacy and education efforts across the state.
