NEW FRANKLIN, Mo. — In case you hadn’t heard, the Center for Agroforestry will be hosting our annual Missouri Chestnut Roast Festival THIS SATURDAY, October 2nd from 10am to 3pm at the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center in New Franklin, MO.
We’re also excited to welcome current and prospective chestnut producers to a Chestnut Field Workshop which will take place DURING the Chestnut Roast event, from 11am to 1pm. The workshop will include in-depth review of effective cultivation practices, harvest and processing equipment, technical and financial assistance resources, a visit to the chestnut repository orchard with Dr. Ron Revord and Dr. Michael Gold, Q&A with these knowledgeable researchers in addition to experienced chestnut grower, Bill Stouffer of Cedar Hill Farms, AND a chestnut cultivar tasting and follow-up cooking demo.
Many of the Chestnut Roast event presentations are recorded, so if you’re not able to attend in person, be sure to check out the new video releases on October 2nd at the Mizzou Agroforestry YouTube channel. However, the tasting, equipment and orchard visits are limited to in-person attendance. We will be practicing safe distancing, and all activities will be outdoors. The health and safety of our community is top priority.
