ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Beef Expo will be held on October 21-24 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. Thursday activities include the Youth Knowledge Bow Contest, a Team Fitting Contest, and the Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Program Seminar. Friday is another full day of youth activities, including a Cattle Judging Contest, and Showmanship competition. The MN Beef Expo Trade Show will open on Friday at 10:00 AM and continue through Sunday.
Saturday will feature sale cattle judging, starting at 7:30 AM, and the MN Beef Expo Cattle Sale at 11:00 AM, with about 80 head of high-quality beef show prospects registered for the Sale. The sale animals are eligible to be shown in the Junior Shows on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.
The “Supreme Row” event will take place at 2:00 PM in the Coliseum, which will include the naming of the Supreme Champion sale animals, the introduction of the 2021- 22 youth beef ambassadors and the awarding of the 2020-21 MYBEP achievement award. The Prospect Market Calf Show and Market Beef Show will be held in two show rings, beginning at 4:00 PM on Saturday, concluding with the naming of the Supreme Champion and Reserve Prospect Market Calf and Top 5 Overall Prospect Calves.
The MN Beef Expo will conclude on Sunday with a Junior Heifer Show, featuring over 600 breeding heifer entries from several States, which will be shown in two rings. The MN Beef Expo will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the selection of the Supreme Champion and Reserve Champion Heifers and naming of the Top 5 Overall Heifers.
The Minnesota Youth Beef Experience Program (MYBEP) will award eleven heifer calves to FFA, 4-H and junior breed association youth from a pool of approximately 75 applications. Every recipient will be responsible for raising, breeding and maintaining complete records on the care of the animal while providing monthly progress reports to the original owner and the Minnesota Beef Expo. The breeders and others who donated heifers will also serve as mentors to the MYBEP youth. The youth are expected to bring their fully-grown heifers back to the 2022 MN Beef Expo. The 2021 MYBEP heifers will be awarded during the “Supreme Row” event on Saturday, October 23, beginning at 2:00 PM.
