ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Dairy producers in Northwest Iowa are invited to a milk market update and risk management discussion at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the ISU Extension and Outreach Sioux County office in Orange City.
Presenters will include Matt Tranel and Ron Mortenson.
- Matt Tranel grew up on his family’s dairy farm in southwest Wisconsin. His farming background led him to the University of Wisconsin – Platteville where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting. Matt began his career with Commodity Risk Management Group (now ever.ag) in January of 2015. His responsibilities include constructing marketing plans and margin management programs for producers.
- Ron Mortenson developed the idea of Dairy Grose Margin to help dairymen manage risk. Since July 2008, dairy producers in Iowa have had access to a risk management tool that helps to minimize profit losses. The policy considers both the price of milk and feed costs and was first offered to Iowa dairy farmers in July 2008. Two months later, Dairy Gross Margin, LLC wrote its first LGM policy. Mortenson will discussion the status of risk management tools available for dairymen.
