RICHLAND and LEXINGTON COUNTIES, S.C. — Sustainable Midlands is excited to host the 2017 Midlands Farm Tour at ten sustainable farms in Richland and Lexington County. In keeping with the mission of Sustainable Midlands to encourage responsible growth, ensure access to local food, and establish a healthy environment for all Midlands communities, the Midlands Farm Tour connects Midlands consumers with local producers practicing farm stewardship and sustainability. The goals of the tour are to strengthen relationships within our growing farming community and to bolster support for our local food nexus.

This year promises a unique experience with the inclusion of niche products like indigo and chestnuts, as well as a range of interesting farming practices, such as aquaponics, organic, “hyperlocal” wine production, and farms utilizing the 360-method of composting, harvesting rainwater, and the use of alternative energy sources. Participants can interact with animals, learn about farm stewardship and specialty cultivation, and purchase farm goods at each stop. Many farms will have refreshments or food for sale, as well as art, dry goods, and gifts. The participating farms are: Arnold Farm, Carolina Bay Farms, Doko Farm, Fire Barrel Farm, Leesville Aquaponics, Meador Acres Chestnuts, The Winery at Mercer House, Six Berry Farm, Terra Kotta Farms, and Up On Cedar Knoll Farm. Check out the website to learn what each farm will be offering, and download our Midlands Farm Tour Guide!

This is a one-day, self-guided event, with all-inclusive tickets that guarantee access to all farms on the tour. Ticket prices are $15, and can be purchased online or day of at any of the farms on the tour. Children under the age of ten, and WIC, SNAP, and EBT beneficiaries, as well as those with Senior Vouchers are admitted free of charge with proof of eligibility. Discounted tickets of $10 are available to first responders, military, and students with identification card. Free for media. For group discounts, please contact us at midlandsfarmtoursc@gmail.com.
