GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Penn State and University of Maryland Extension fruit specialists are holding their annual multi-state orchard meeting on June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larriland Farm in Woodbine, Md. Growers from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region are invited to attend.
The Moore family will provide a tour of their diversified operation and discuss the various challenges of operating a “pick-your-own” farm in the 21st century. Tour highlights include management practices for fully pedestrian orchards, strategies for meeting an increased demand for Asian pears and approaches to managing multiple fruit and vegetable crops.
Penn State and University of Maryland specialists will present the latest concerns affecting tree fruit production in the Mid-Atlantic region. Topics include summer use of plant growth regulators, fruit IPM, summer diseases and pruning apples after petal fall.
Larriland Farm is located at 2415 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, MD 21797, just 2.5 miles southwest of the Lisbon exit from I-70/US-40.
