SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. β The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County invites you to attend a new gardening seminar entitled, βAn Introduction to Micro-irrigation.β
This free workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 4 at the EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick.
Micro-irrigation is a breakthrough in home gardening that allows for drip irrigation to be achieved with household water pressure. This form of irrigation has been used by farmers for decades and has been known to save time, reduce weeds, produce healthier plants and work especially well during droughts or dry seasons.
The workshop will demonstrate the specialized attachments used for irrigation lines that are widely available in hardware and garden stores.
βMany conventional irrigation systems waste large amounts of water,β said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. βMicro-irrigation is an approach that not only reduces the amount of water required, but also results in healthier, more productive plants.β
βIt is critical that we do everything we can to conserve resources and keep our environment healthy,β said Freeholder Kenneth Armwood, Chair of the Business Development and Education Committee. βI encourage residents to attend this informative seminar.β
To register for this free seminar, call 732-398-5262 by March 1. No walk-ins will be admitted.
The EARTH Center is located in one of Middlesex Countyβs most beautiful parks, Davidsonβs Mill Pond Park. The 300-plus acre park features a demonstration vegetable garden, hard-scaped herb garden and a water-conserving rain garden. These displays are used to spark conversation about earth-friendly gardening techniques, local agriculture and topics that are the focus of Extension Servicesβ Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Department.
