MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — The Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) has joined the fight against cancer by forming a team of cyclists who are going to participate in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). The team of five is set to ride more than 750 miles for those who can’t on Aug. 5 & 6, 2017. All the funds raised by this team will go to cancer research through the Dana-Faber Cancer Research Institution and the Jimmy Fund.
“Cancer is a terrible disease that does not discriminate,” said MFBF President Ed Davidian, who farms in Northborough. “Many of our members have been touched by cancer or may have even lost a loved one to it, making this philanthropic, near and dear to many of us.”
To help raise funds for this endeavor, MFBF will be hosting Camping for a Cure events across the state on June 10. During these events, young families will have the opportunity to experience farm life. During the day, each campsite will host a children’s fair, during which an obstacle course, a petting zoo, a wagon ride, face painting and more may be held. After a day full of these terrific activities, a camp-out will be held in the evening where a movie may be shown.
As more locations and sponsors are secured, MFBF will release more information about the statewide Camping for a Cure. In the meantime, anyone interested in supporting the team is encouraged to visit the team’s PMC profile page, here: http://profile.pmc.org/TM0329.
“Farmers are some of the most generous people,” Davidian said. “Please consider supporting our team’s quest to end cancer as our farmers continue to provide you and your loved ones with their daily nourishment that is necessary to keep them healthy.”
Team members include:
- John Conners, MFBF Director of Communications and IT
- Mike Davidian, MFBF Promotions and Education Chair and Northborough farmer
- Ryan MacKay, MFBF At-Large Director and Holden farmer
- Heidi Cooper, MFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Vice Chair and Rochdale farmer
