MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — CBS Boston Chief Meteorologist Eric Fisher is set to lead a general session workshop at Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation’s (MFBF’s) annual meeting on Nov. 29-30, 2018, at the Sheraton Hotel in Framingham, Massachusetts. During his session, Fisher will discuss overall climate trends, winter 2019 and other weather topics that farmers should be aware of.
“After a farmer puts the crop in the ground, he/she does everything in their power to mitigate the impact weather may have on that crop,” said MFBF President Mark Amato, who works as farm manager at Verrill Farm in Concord, Massachusetts. “Eric Fisher will be able to provide us with some insight into next winter, which will impact our 2019 planting schedules and ground moisture. I’ll be interested to hear what he is predicting.”
Born and raised in New England, Fisher says there are few places on earth that produce weather like this little corner of the United States. This is a fact many of MFBF’s regular members know well and will make his presentation a must see for all farmers.
“Eric Fisher will also be joined by other top-notch speakers on topics ranging from labor to transportation,” Amato said. “Our staff is hard at work, planning a high-caliber conference that farmer members cannot afford to miss.”
Other speakers scheduled for MFBF’s annual meeting will address critical issues facing the agricultural industry in Massachusetts, offering members in attendance an increased awareness of the organization and improve their knowledge about issues in the agricultural industry. The conference speaker line-up includes:
- Steven Hanley, US DOT FMCSA federal program manager for Massachusetts;
- Patty Collarossi, US Department of Labor/Wage, Community Outreach and Resource Planning specialist;
- Paul Schlegel, American Farm Bureau Federation’s managing director of public policy;
- Nick Smith, Maine farmer and American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer and Rancher committee member;
- Chris Hoffman, Pennsylvania farmer and American Farm Bureau Federation Promotion and Education committee chair;
- Michael Botelho, Massachusetts Department of Agriculture’s Commonwealth Quality program coordinator;
- And more.
More speakers may be added to this line-up as the meeting approaches. The meeting will also include a delegate’s session, during which appointed county representatives will discuss and vote on policy priorities for 2019 and beyond.
More information about the conference is online at www.mfbf.net.
