TEMPLE, Texas — The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Wise County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Wise County Water Control and Improvement District (WCID) and Wise County Commissioners Court, Wise County, Texas, are sponsoring a public scoping meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2021, to discuss a proposed dam rehabilitation project in Wise County, Texas.
Dam No. 26 provides flood protection to residents of Wise County and the adjacent downstream floodplain. Local sponsors, NRCS staff, and their consultants are developing a plan for rehabilitating Dam No. 26 so it meets current dam safety regulations and design standards. Alternatives to be considered include:  no action, decommissioning (dam removal), structural rehabilitation, and nonstructural measures. Federal funding has been received to assist the local sponsors in developing a plan.
This public meeting will be presented live as a Microsoft Teams meeting on Jan. 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., CST. In addition to a live meeting, a recording of the presentation will be provided. Questions and comments regarding the project can be submitted until Friday, January 22, 2021. Staff from these agencies, along with their consultants, will provide information on the dam rehabilitation program, planning activities to date, and the various rehabilitation alternatives to be evaluated for rehabilitation of the flood-retarding structure. Staff will be available to answer questions and concerns about the project and seek public input. The public is invited.
