FRESNO, Calif. — Fielding a strong slate of entries from throughout California, the 2021 San Joaquin Wine Competition awarded the greatest number of awards in its fifteen year history! Held for the first time at Robert Hall Winery, the largest judging panel yet handed best of show red and white, respectively to Petite Petite 2019 Petite Sirah from Michael David Winery and 2020 Eberle Viognier.
In addition to the best in show awards, double gold medals (by unanimous selection of the tasting panelists) included wines from Cardella Winery, Eberle Winery, Fresno State Winery, Halter Ranch Vineyard, J. Lohr and Robert Hall.
The judging panel consisted of wine makers from various esteemed wineries, around the state, with a heavy influence of Central Coast and Central Valley producers along with wine industry professionals, writers and on each panel, a younger “judge in training.”
Sponsored by AB Biotech and Ravago Chemicals, the 2021 Competition awarded more than 140 medals to wines from Southern to Northern California, and every region in between. Competition Chair, Marty Spate, remarks that, “in my 12 years involved with this event, these were by far the highest quality entries that we have every received across the board.” He continued, “And, the results verify this fact. We are excited for seeing what the future holds!”
A follow up tasting will be held in the fall where the public will be able to taste wines from the gold medal winning wineries at a yet to be determined date. The complete list of official results is in the link below.
