JEFFERSON CITY — Summer internships provide countless opportunities for college students to gain real world experience while networking and getting out of their comfort zone. The Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri State Fair are pleased to welcome seven interns for the summer.
Laura Bardot, Lonedell, Mo., communications intern: Bardot will begin her senior year at the University of Missouri this fall where she is majoring in science and agricultural journalism. She is looking forward to adding content to her professional portfolio while expanding her network and connections.
Christine Luckasen, Fort Collins, Colo., legal intern: Luckasen graduated from Creighton University in the summer of 2015 with a Bachelor’s in economics and communication and is currently a graduate student at the University of Missouri. She is excited to explore the different aspects of the Missouri agriculture industry.
Travis Sommerlad, Winfield, Mo., grain inspection intern: He is a senior agricultural business major at Southeast Missouri State University.
Sarah Kwast, Sullivan, Mo., Missouri State Fair marketing intern: Kwast is a sophomore agriculture business marketing and sales major at Missouri State University. This summer she is excited to plan the Governor’s Ham Breakfast, a long standing tradition at the Missouri State Fair.
Torri Luyet, Sedalia, Mo., Missouri State Fair marketing intern: She is a public relations major and graduated from the University of Central Missouri in May. Luyet will coordinate the opening day parade.
Darby Schmidt, Defiance, Mo., Missouri State Fair marketing intern: The Kansas State University junior is studying agricultural economics with a specialty in marketing. Schmidt is coordinating the “Let’s Talk Livestock” demonstrations.
Molly Espey, Warrensburg, Mo., Missouri State Fair marketing intern: The senior at University of Missouri is majoring in public relations. She has spent several summers at the State Fair and is looking forward to learning more about the inner workings of the fair.
