CHARITON, Iowa — The McNay Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm will hold its annual field day Aug. 4, beginning at 4 p.m., at the farm just southwest of Chariton. The event is open to all interested in hearing updates on crop production and beef production topics.
The field day sessions include “Corn Rootworm Management Strategies,” by Erin Hodgson and Ashley Dean, extension entomologists; “Annual Forage Project,” by Rebecca Vittetoe, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach, and Chris Clark, beef specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach; “Passive Immunity Transmission in Beef Cattle,” by Lynn Geoffroy, Iowa State DVM and postdoc research associate, and Megan Hindman, Iowa State DVM and clinical assistant professor; and “60 Corn and Cover Crops,” by Mike Witt, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
“Producers and individuals involved in the ag industry will be given the chance to gain valuable learning experiences over production practices being researched at the farm,” said Clarabell Probasco, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “The trials conducted at the farm provide good insight into potential solutions for current crop and beef production challenges that producers are faced with.”
Registration begins at 3:30 p.m., and the program will start at 4 p.m., with a general update on the McNay Memorial Research Farm by Logan Wallace, co-farm manager. The field day is free and open to the public. Ribeye steak sandwiches and sides will be prepared by the Lucas County Cattlemens Association.
Certified Crop Advisers can earn CCA credits as follows: 0.5 soil and water management, 0.5 crop management and 0.5 pest management.
The McNay Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm is located at 45249 170th Ave., Chariton, Iowa. Signs will be posted near the farm.
