INDIANAPOLIS — May is Beef Month in Indiana! As Hoosiers, we celebrate our state in so many ways, but especially when it comes to Basketball, Bridges and BEEF!
Cattle farming is an Indiana tradition dating back to the 1700s. Today, Indiana is home to more than 29,000 premises with cattle who work hard, through any challenge, to produce high quality beef for your family.
Beef is good – and good for you. A 3-ounce serving of beef provides 10% or more of 10 essential nutrients for less than 10% of the daily value for calories. More specifically, a 3-ounce serving of beef contains nearly 50% of the daily value for protein, which is important in building and repairing muscle.
It is no coincidence that Beef Month occurs at the beginning of the summer grilling season.
“The start of the grilling season is a perfect time to recognize the beef industry”,” said Chad Lanum, president of the Indiana Beef Council. “We are fortunate in Indiana to have such outstanding beef producers and allied industry partners who work together to provide the safest and highest quality beef products available anywhere in the world.”
