MONTROSE, Pa. — The Penn State Master Gardeners will be exhibiting at the 30th annual Susquehanna County Ag Day to be held March 1 at the Elk Lake High School from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Master Gardeners will be presenting two sessions on Planting for Pollinators and a session on Spotted Lanternfly and Poisonous Plants. There will also be vast array of horticultural information in several areas as well as unique displays and much more. Have a gardening question? There is something for everyone. Other programs to be presented that day are: Control of Aquatic Plants and Algae in Ponds and Lakes, Everyday Wellness Habits, Funding for Farmers, Pesticide Exposure (1 core) Ear Rots and Mycotoxin Management (1PC/01/18), Top Tips for Applicators (1 Core) What’s New in 2019? (1PC/01/18), Wildlife Habitat in Private Woodlots, Wrangling More Days of out the Mid-Atlantic Growing Season, Stream Buffers and Manure Management and No-Till Cover Crops.
Registration (required) for Ag Day is free and includes a complimentary lunch sponsored by Cabot Oil and Gas. After this date lunches will cost $5.
Ag Day includes more than 75 ag vendors, educational workshops, health fair exhibits, lunch, pie baking contest, pie auction and delicious dairy products including milk, cheese and ice cream.
Ag Day visitors are encouraged to take a stroll up “Health Alley” and visit a variety of health and community organizations who will be promoting their activities and programs.
Ag Day’s ever popular Pie Contest and Auction will once again be held with all proceeds benefiting the Susquehanna County 4-H and the Dairy Princess Promotion Program.
Guidelines for the 2019 Ag Day Pie Contest are as follows:
- Enter as many pies as you’d like.
- There will be two divisions: adult and youth
- Pie should be in a 9-inch aluminum pie plate.
- Pies must be entered by 11 a.m. Please bring them to the stage in the gym at Ag Day.
- The top six pies will be recognized and receive special recognition.

Anyone is eligible to enter youth or adults, farm or non-farm folks. The Pie Auction will take place at 2:30 p.m., join the excitement as the pies are auctioned off by bidding and you will have a delicious pie to take home and will have supported youth of Susquehanna County.
