MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — Learn something new and shake off your cabin fever with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County.
Please join us at two upcoming weekend workshops with Orange County Master Gardener Volunteer Joe Gregoire, at 18 Seward Avenue, Middletown, NY. Joe will present Backyard Maple Syrup on Saturday, January 18 from 10:30 am – 12 pm (snow date – Saturday, February 8) and Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation on Saturday, February 22 from 10 am – 12 pm (snow date – Sunday, February 23). Pre-registration is required.
The Backyard Maple Syrup Workshop will cover the basics on how to make real maple syrup from tree identification and collecting sap to processing the sap into syrup. This workshop has a $10 fee per participant or $8 fee per Gardening in Orange County subscriber.
The Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation Workshop will introduce you to the history, benefits, and proven best practices for growing Shiitake mushrooms on logs at home or for small scale commercial use. This workshop has a $10 fee per participant or $8 fee per Gardening in Orange County subscriber.
Joe and his wife have a started a small farm in Westtown in 2016, where they grow hops for local breweries, mushrooms for local restaurants, and produce maple syrup for family and friends. Joe shares his expertise as a regular contributor to the Home and Garden section of the Times Herald Record.
