ARNOLD, Mo. — Gardening brings joy as you fill your world with growing things through the University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener program, says Debi Kelly, horticulture field specialist.
A new series of Wednesday evening classes begins Jan. 29 in the lecture hall of Jefferson College’s Arnold campus. Classes run weekly 6:30-9:30 p.m. through April 15, with no class on March 18.
Horticulturists from MU Extension and Mineral Area College teach the class. Topics include basic botany, soils and plant nutrition, vegetable gardening, fruit production, plant propagation, insects, plant diseases, landscape plants, landscape design, and pesticide safety.
To become certified Master Gardeners, trainees must pass a test and donate service hours to help others learn to grow, Kelly said.
Certified Master Gardeners continue to learn and share through continuing education and community service each year.
