TROY, N.Y. — An intensive three day training for those who would like to go beyond the basics of home food preservation – either for your own use or to help others learn how to safely preserve food. This course is the first toward becoming a Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Food Preserver. Using the safest, most updated information available, participants will learn the science of food preservation including food safety and gain hands-on experience with boiling water bath canning, pressure canning, jellied products and quick pickling. Students will observe demonstrations of freezing, dehydrating and fermentation. Other methods of food preservation will be discussed. Nightly study is suggested for passing the 60 question post- test. No prior experience in food preservation is required. Taught by CCE home food preservation experts Judy Price and Diane Whitten.
Learn how to keep this tradition alive by preserving your own harvest or your purchased fruits, vegetables and meats from locally owned farms.
