ALTOONA, Iowa — To help Central Iowans understand and make wise decisions about marketing old and new crops, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting crop marketing, crop insurance, and the new farm program meetings in Central Iowa in mid-February.
“The meetings are designed to help landowners, tenants and other agri-business professionals with current issues related to marketing crops and pending enrollment decisions in the new farm program,” said Steve Johnson, farm and agriculture business management specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
Topics include:
- Crop supply/demand and price outlook
- Futures carry, basis and cost of grain ownership
- Establishing time and price objectives
- Using crop revenue protection
- New Farm Bill overview
Participant can choose from the following dates and locations:
- Grinnell, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m., Key Co-op, 1128 Pinder Ave.
- Grundy Center, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m., Community Center, 705 F Ave.
- Huxley, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m., Huxley Learning Center, 1551 Highway 210
- Ogden, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m., Community Center, 114 SW 8th St.
- Stuart, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m., West Central Valley High School, 3299 White Pole Rd.
- Marshalltown, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m., Iowa Valley Continuing Education, Dejardin Hall, 3702 S. Center St.
Doors will open 30 minutes before each program. The meetings will last approximately two hours and will be facilitated by Johnson and Ray Jenkins, grain merchandiser and trainer with ISU Extension and Outreach. No registration fee is required, and the meetings are open to the public.
