TROY, N.Y. — Farm to Institution New York State (FINYS) is partnering with area organizations to bring their Market Readiness workshop to farmers in the Capital Region on March 6, 2017 from 10:00 am to 2:45 pm at Capital Roots (594 River Street, Troy, NY). The workshop will share information on food service marketing trends, requirements for food safety and insurance, packaging and more. Participants will also learn about building successful working relationships with regional buyers from institutions, distributors and food hubs who go the extra mile to source New York-grown for their customers. The workshop will also feature:
- The logistics and best practices of selling to institutions including child care centers, schools, colleges and hospitals
- Tour of a local institution preparing 600 meals daily
- Tour of Capital Roots’ Food Hub and speak to them about buying opportunities
- Networking with other producers and meet buyers at the Farmer-Buyer mixer following the workshop from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Revolution Hall, 425 River Street, Troy

This workshop is being led by FINYS-sponsored market readiness trainers from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga, Schoharie and Otsego counties, Capital District Child Care Council and SUNY Adirondack. Co-sponsors include Agricultural Stewardship Association and Capital Roots. Farm to Institution Market Readiness Training is funded by the Professional Development Program of Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education.
