SCHOHARIE CO., N.Y. — With planning for Family Farm Day (FFD) 2019 about to begin in January, FFD farmers are acting on current Agritourism trends that indicate nature and agricultural tourism are on the rise in the broader Catskills and Mohawk Valley regions. Bringing visitors on-farm builds customer base, creates new income streams, and adds an additional source of risk to the farm business.
Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Schoharie and Otsego Counties joins its neighboring Extension Associations to present five webinars about managing agritourism risk, followed by a panel session of successful agritourism operators and facilitators. In-between each seminar, participants will build on their knowledge to develop their own risk management plan. The five areas of risk are legal, marketing, human resource, financial, and weather/production.
The CCE Schoharie and Otsego sessions will be held simultaneously at the Extension Center, 173 South Grand St., Cobleskill and the Education Center, 123 Lake St., Cooperstown; Fridays, 1/11, 1/18, /1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, all from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with 30 minutes for lunch. There is no fee to attend; all materials are included. Participants may bring their own lunch – snacks and beverages will be provided. To register or for more information, call 518-234-4303 (x111) or email schoharie@cornell.edu. Registrations will be accepted through Wed., January 9, 2019.
This five-county program is produced by CCE Delaware as host county, CCE Schoharie and Otsego, CCE Sullivan, and CCE Ulster Counties via ZOOM technology, and is sponsored by the Northeast Extension Risk Management Education Center.
Cornell Cooperative Extension provides equal program and employment opportunities. Accommodations for persons with special needs may be requested by contacting Cornell Cooperative Extension Schoharie and Otsego Counties at 518.234.4303 by Wednesday, 1/9/19.
