ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will host ‘A Sappy Story: Making Maple Syrup in Iowa’ on Saturday, March 18 from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the Orange City Public Library.
“At this time of year, the sap is flowing in our maple trees,” said Margaret Murphy, horticulture educator and regional food coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Iowa may not come to mind when it comes to maple syrup production, but join us and meet a local farmer who collects this sweet treat.”
The program will feature Darla Eeten of Goodeetens Produce Farm (http://goodeetens.weebly.com). Eeten markets her own maple syrup made from sap collected at her local farm. She will demonstrate how to tap a tree, share how to cook the sap to make syrup, and offer tastings of both the sap and the syrup.
The program, which is a project of ISU Extension and Outreach Flavors of Northwest Iowa (www.flavorsofnorthwestiowa.org), is free and open to the public. No registration is needed.
