AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A committee of the Maine Legislature has approved a proposal designed to provide better access to information about pesticides on school grounds.

The Legislature’s Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry voted in favor of the proposal on Tuesday. The proposal requires schools to submit pest management activity logs and post public inspection results.

The bill’s sponsor, Democratic Sen. Mattie Daughtry, of Brunswick, said the proposal is based on the concept that “the more we know about what pesticides are being used around students, and how those pesticides are being applied, the better off we’ll all be.”

The proposal will now go to the full Maine Senate and Maine House of Representatives. The committee approved it by a count of 12-1.
