“This event gives the community an opportunity to learn more about the work we do with strawberries,” said Dr. Russ Wallace, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service vegetable specialist. “Whether it’s a farmer looking for an alternative high-dollar crop or a backyard gardener, this event provides the information needed to successfully grow strawberries here in Texas.”
Wallace and his team conduct field tests on strawberries to determine which varieties are most suitable to climate and soil conditions of West Texas. Their goal is to give local agriculture producers additional crop options.
Participants may tour the AgriLife Research plots as well as local growers’ strawberry production facilities.
