EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Detroit Lions have a 2-0 record and Michigan’s agricultural bounty is at its peak. Now is the perfect time to think about some fresh food for tailgating. Michigan State University Extension’s Michigan Fresh campaign has a collection of some excellent recipes that are picky eater friendly.

Check out:

  • Stuffed peppers with corn
  • Broccoli Salad
  • Peach Crisp
  • Pear Party Salsa

If you need more ideas, you can find over 1,000 recipes on Michigan Fresh’s Pinterest boards at this link.  This is also a great resource for the upcoming holiday season. It’s never too early to start thinking about your Thanksgiving meal. In addition, Michigan Fresh’s Facebook page has several recipe ideas and videos so you can see the step-by-step process of making each recipe.

Michigan is second only to California in the number of crops produced. Fall is the perfect time to shop for Michigan Fresh foods at your local grocery store and farmers market. To find a farmers market near you, click here.

To take your love for local food a step further, you might consider signing up for a winter CSA share. Winter CSA shares usually include salad greens, root vegetables, leeks and winter squash. To find a CSA near you, click here.

Michigan State University Extension’s Community Food Systems team encourages you to talk with your family and friends about creative ways you can incorporate locally produced food in your home, workplaces, tailgates and holiday meals.
