ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) will be sponsoring a local foods event that is being hosted at a MN Cooks restaurant in Windom, MN on March 23, 2017. River City Eatery, a 2017 MN Cooks restaurant, is proud to host the event in their newly remodeled meeting room area. River City Eatery will be connecting with local farms as they do on a regular basis, to offer a three-course menu for attendees. Local farmers who are supplying the food will be invited to speak about their farm; Minnesota Farmers Union Education department along with the President of Minnesota Farmers Union will speak about the importance of local foods and local foods education.
“MFU is proud to attend and sponsor events such as this,” said MFU President Gary Wertish, who added “local foods education is a key element of the work that Minnesota Farmers Union does and we are proud of that. The opportunities to continue working with our MN Cooks chefs and restaurants to help keep that education going will make a difference for all rural communities and family farmers.”
River City Eatery is a quaint little local place nestled on the historic downtown square in rural Windom, Minnesota. Mari Harris is proud to call her restaurant an eatery as the stories that her food tells and the uniqueness in the menu options keep her restaurant from being known as the “run-of-the-mill” restaurant. Mari focuses on sourcing as much of her ingredients as possible from local farmers and helps to network with as many local sources as she can to help support the Windom community.
Tickets can be purchased via the Ted Winter Insurance Agency and River City Eatery in Windom. More information about the event can also be located there or through Minnesota Farmers Union website at www.mfu.org.
Money raised from the ticket sales of this event will go towards sponsoring a youth education program which will highlight local farmers and cooking with local foods.
