MT. PLEASANT, Iowa — Mount Pleasant Community Schools will be participating in Iowa Local Food Day on Friday October 11th.
Iowa Local Food Day is a celebration of Iowa farmers and local foods during National Farm to School Month. This annual event will bring together all sectors of Farm to School, unifying the state around the success of our farms, children, and schools.
Over 1800 Mt. Pleasant students will be enjoying a snack of local apples and cheese curds. Bryant Orchard in Morning Sun will be providing Jonathan, yellow delicious and chieftain apples. Hinterland Dairy in Donnellson, a dairy that has just started producing cheese this year, will provide the fresh cheese curds.
While enjoying their locally sourced snack, students will watch a video about the featured farms and how the foods were produced. The goal of this event is to build awareness of the food producers in our corner of the state, and to encourage youth to connect more with where their food comes from.
Henry County Extension & Outreach will be sponsoring this event.
