CYNTHIANA, Ky. — On Saturday, November 11, over 200 volunteers gathered at Harrison County Middle School to pack over 16,000 meals for impoverished regions of Haiti. Volunteers included agriculture students from Harrison County Middle School and Harrison County High School as well as various members of the community. FFA members from Bourbon County, Owen County, and Scott County also assisted with the meal packing.
Students in the Harrison County Agriculture Program and FFA raised over $4,000 to host this event. The money was raised by selling t-shirts and the collection of individual donations. The chapter also recieved a Living to Serve grant through National FFA.
During the event, the volunteers packed roughly 16,000 meals in less than one hour. HCHS FFA members selected the island nation of Haiti to be the recipient of the meals. The meals are designed to fit into the Haitian people’s diet and consist of rice, dehydrated vegetables, soy and a vitamin powder. Each meal is highly nutritious and will provide great nourishment to those who need it the most.
The chapter partnered with Lifeline Christian Mission from Ohio to coordinate the meal packing event. Lifeline will deliver the meals to Haiti in the coming months.
