ST. LUCIE CO., Fla. — Residents of all ages came out to the Fort Piece Community Garden in the Lincoln Park Community last week to claim their gardening plot. St. Lucie Master Gardeners were on hand to provide vegetable gardening guidance and assist the new gardeners in planting the free seeds and transplants they received for signing up during the Kick-Off Event.
Some lucky gardeners even walked away with banana trees to plant in their yard, thanks to an unexpected donation from St. Lucie County’s Coastal Resources Supervisor Jim Oppenborn.
If residents didn’t make it out to the Community Garden opening – don’t fret! There are still a few garden plots left to reserve, including a couple of larger spots that an organization can claim for a group project! To secure your gardening spot, call 772-467-3168 or go to http://www.cityoffortpierce.com/194/Fort-Pierce-Community-Garden to be a part of this growing effort. All indicators are for a bumper crop of fresh veggies this season.
