Learn dietary approaches for managing Type 2 diabetes during free upcoming classes

TAVARES, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is hosting programs at locations throughout the county focusing on healthy eating during the month of November:

  • Eating with Diabetes: During November, National Diabetes Month, learn dietary approaches for managing Type 2 diabetes and understand how certain food can affect health. Register online at https://fcslake.eventbrite.com for any of the following free classes:
    – Nov. 6 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Lady Lake Library, 225 W. Guava St., Lady Lake
    – Nov. 27 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. at the Umatilla Library, 412 Hatfield Drive, Umatilla.
    – Nov. 29 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at Cooper Memorial Library, 2525 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont
  • Much Ado About Veggies on Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares. Join Extension Agents Brooke Moffis and Mia Wilchcombe along with Master Gardeners to learn which vegetables grow best in the Florida garden and explore healthy ways to use them in the kitchen. Registration is $10 at https://UFRootsUp.eventbrite.com.

Those with food allergies should be aware that food items prepared or distributed as part of UF/IFAS Extension events may contain milk, egg, gluten, wheat, soybean, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish; and could be prepared in a facility that may be exposed to any of these ingredients.

The mission of the UF/IFAS Extension in Lake County is to develop knowledge in agricultural, human and natural resources and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life.
