COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Is your food budget stretched and you wish you had help? Cornell Cooperative Extension can help. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) helps county residents stretch food purchasing dollars while showing how homemakers can provide healthy meals for families.
“Food is expensive, but we can help in showing ways to provide nutritious and satisfying meals while still working with tight family budgets,” says Connie Bennett, nutrition educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schoharie and Otsego Counties. She added, “It is particularly challenging for families with young children. Parents of young families often times have little time to cook so they find themselves overspending on convenience foods. There are many approaches families can utilize to help themselves, and they are incorporated in our program which helps families save dollars while feeding young families.”
The program is offered throughout Otsego, Schoharie, and Montgomery Counties and is free for eligible families. To learn more about the program locally, contact educator Connie Bennett at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 123 Lake Street, Cooperstown, 607-547-2536 ext.224 or by emailing her at ctb34@cornell.edu. For residents of Schoharie or Montgomery Counties, they may call Michelle Leveski at the Cobleskill office, 518-234-4303, or email her atmml39@cornell.edu.
