POTSDAM, N.Y. — A Lambing & Kidding Primer for Beginner Herders is an upcoming workshop covering “what to do when things go wrong – or right.”
The how-to workshop will be presented by Dr. Johanna Kingsley in conjunction wit the Local Living Venture on Wednesday, January 3 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Potsdam Public Library.
The discussion will cover the preparations for lambing/kidding season, the stages of normal birth, how and when to intervene in lambing or kidding, and post-natal care of healthy and unhealthy lambs and kids.
Dr. Johanna Kingsley is a native of Heuvelton, now living in DeKalb, and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2011. Following graduation, she worked as an associate in mixed and small animal practice.
In 2015, she opened Kingsley Veterinary Services to offer comprehensive veterinary care to small ruminants in St. Lawrence County. She is also an active member of the Bees & Beekeeping Discussion Group also facilitated by the Local Living Venture. Kingsley Veterinary Services can be found on Facebook.
The workshop will be held at the The Potsdam Public Library in the downstairs Community Room at 2 Park Street in Potsdam, NY. Look for the orange “Workshop Site” lawn signs.
A $20 suggested donation level for workshop attendance is suggested for adults, with a discount to $35 for a couple, $10 for students. Partial scholarship is available upon request. All proceeds benefit Local Living Venture programming.
Class size is limited, so attendees will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with pre-registered participants receiving first priority. Drop-in’s are welcome, though at risk of the space being full.
To RSVP for a guaranteed spot, contact (315) 347-4223, or LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com, and leave name(s), emails, and phone numbers for a confirmation by email.
