LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Corn production in Kentucky is estimated at 276 million bushels, up 1% from the November forecast and up 10% from the previous crop. Yield was estimated at 192 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from the November forecast and up 8 bushels from the 2020 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 1.44 million acres, up 80,000 acres from 2020.
The U.S. corn production is estimated at 15.1 billion bushels, up slightly from the November forecast and up 7% from the revised 2020 estimate. The average yield in the United States is estimated at 177.0 bushels per acre. This is unchanged bushels from the November forecast and 5.6 bushels above the revised 2020 average yield. Area harvested for grain is estimated at 85.4 million acres, up slightly from the November forecast and up 4% from the revised 2020 acreage.
Soybean production for Kentucky is estimated at 103 million bushels, up 3% from the November forecast and up 2% from 2020. Yield was estimated at 56 bushels per acre, unchanged bushels from last month and up 1.0 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest as beans was estimated at 1.84 million acres, unchanged from the previous year.
U.S. soybean production is forecast at 4.44 billion bushels, up slightly from the November forecast and up 5% from last year. The average yield per acre is estimated at 51.4 bushels, up 0.2 bushels from last month and up 0.4 bushels from last year. Area harvested is up 5% from 2020 at 86.3 million acres.
Kentucky burley tobacco production is estimated at 71.8 million pounds, up 5 % from the October forecast and up 5% from 2020. Yield was estimated at 2,050 pounds per acre, up 150 pounds from October forecast and up 100 pounds from the 2020 crop. Harvested acreage was estimated at 35,000 acres, unchanged acres from last year’s crop.
For the burley producing states production is estimated at 84.3 million pounds, up 5% from last year. Burley growers harvested 41,010 acres, unchanged from 2020. Yields were estimated at 2,055 pounds per acre, up 96 pounds from last year.
Production of Kentucky dark fire-cured tobacco is estimated at 29.1 million pounds, up 40% from the previous year. Dark air-cured tobacco production is estimated at 16.2 million pounds, up 21% from last year.
Alfalfa hay production by Kentucky farmers is estimated at 330,000 tons, down 35% the 2020 level. Other hay production is estimated at 5.25 million tons, up 7% from last year.
