ATHENS, Ga. — Alabama: Corn for grain production for 2019 totaled 44.8 million bushels, up 17 percent from 2018. Cotton production at 1.08 million bales is up 22 percent from last year’s hurricane damaged crop. If realized, this will be largest production since 1948. Peanut production totaled 529 million pounds, down 7 percent from 2018. Soybean production, at 9.36 million bushels, was down 30 percent due primarily to the decline in planted acres.
Florida: Despite yield at a record high 161 bushels per acre, corn for grain production for 2019 totaled 8.69 million bushels, down 11 percent from 2018. Cotton production at 190,000 bales is up 84 percent from last year’s crop which was devastated by Hurricane Michael. Peanut production totaled 589 million pounds, an increase of 4 percent from 2018. Sugarcane for sugar and seed production, at 17.1 million tons, was down 1 percent from last year.
Georgia: Corn for grain production for 2019 totaled 56.0 million bushels, an increase of 12 percent from 2018. Cotton production at 2.65 million bales is up 36 percent from last year’s crop which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Michael resulting in 125,000 acres of abandoned cotton. Peanut production, at 2.77 billion pounds, was down 4 percent from last year. With soybeans planted at 100,000 acres, the lowest level since 1959, production in 2019 totaled 2.70 million bushels, the lowest production since 1963. With tobacco harvested acres at their lowest level since 1918, production in 2019 totaled 18.9 million pounds, the lowest since 1932.
South Carolina: Corn for grain production for 2019 totaled 37.1 million bushels, a decrease of 6 percent from 2018. Cotton production at 500,000 bales is up 19 percent from last year’s crop which was impacted by Hurricanes Florence and Michael. Peanut production, at 236 million pounds, was down 13 percent due primarily to the drop in planted acres compared to 2018. Soybean production, at 8.32 million bushels, was down 13 percent from last year. With tobacco harvested at 8,300 acres, the lowest level since 1893, production in 2019 totaled 15.8 million pounds, the lowest since 1911.
