ATHENS, Ga. — Nationally, corn for grain production is forecast at 13.8 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the previous forecast and down 4 percent from last year. Soybean production is forecast at 3.63 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the previous forecast and down 20 percent from last year. All cotton production is forecast at 21.9 million 480-pound bales, down 3 percent from the previous forecast but up 19 percent from 2018.
Alabama: Corn for grain production is forecast at 49.1 million bushels, up 26 percent from 2018. Cotton production forecast, at 1.05 million bales, is up 18 percent from 2018. If realized, this will be the highest production for the state since 1948. Peanut acreage is revised up to 160,000 acres with production forecasted at 534 million pounds, down 3 percent from 2018. Soybean production at 12.1 million bushels is down 13 percent from last year.
Florida: Cotton acreage is revised down to 113,000 planted and 111,000 harvested with production forecasted at 210,000 bales, up 104 percent from 2018 when Hurricane Michael devastated the Panhandle of Florida. Peanut acreage is revised up to 165,000 with production forecasted up 23 percent from last year at 620 million pounds. Sugarcane production is forecast at 18.1 million tons, up 5 percent from 2018.
Georgia: Corn for grain production is forecast at 55.6 million bushels, up 11 percent from 2018. Cotton production forecast, at 2.70 million bales, is up 38 percent from 2018’s hurricane damaged crop. Peanut acreage is revised up to 670,000 planted and 660,000 harvested with production forecasted at 2.90 billion pounds, up slightly from 2018. Yield is forecast at 4,400 pounds per acre. Soybean production at 3.47 million bushels is down 36 percent from last year.
South Carolina: Corn for grain production is forecast at 40.4 million bushels, up 3 percent from 2018. Cotton production forecast, at 510,000 bales, is up 21 percent from the 2018 crop which was impacted by Hurricanes Florence and Michael. Peanut acreage is unchanged at 65,000 planted with production forecasted at 223 million pounds, a 20 percent decrease from 2018. Soybean production, at 11.6 million bushels, is a 4 percent increase from last year.
