PRINCETON, Ky. — As you shop for your Thanksgiving feast, many grocery lists will have the word turkey near the top. As a traditional holiday centerpiece, the bird is often the star of the show.
The farmer-leaders of the Kentucky Soybean Board remind you that livestock and poultry (including turkeys!) are our number one customer for protein-rich soybean meal. Poultry production is big business here in the Commonwealth, and we are pleased to supply this feed ingredient to the farmers who raise layers, broilers and turkeys for your enjoyment.
If you’re a family that celebrates with ham or beef, we have you covered there, as well. Pork and beef cattle also commonly consume high-protein soybean meal as part of their feed rations.
The main course isn’t the only place you’ll find soy components during this holiday season. Soybean oil, commonly labeled vegetable oil on your grocer’s shelves, is the number one oil used for frying in the United States. Using soybean oil means that the flavor profile of the food being fried is unaffected. Vegetable oil is also frequently found in many baking recipes.
Just as we are thankful for the folks who prepare our favorite holiday dishes, we also pause to give thanks for the Kentucky farm families who raise it and the consumers who trust us to provide safe, nutritious and affordable food at the holidays and all year long.
