LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Soybeans planted in Kentucky were estimated at 1.95 million acres, up 100,000 acres from 2020. Acres harvested for grain, at 1.94 million acres, is indicated 100,000 acres above acres a year ago. U.S. soybean planted area for 2021 was estimated at 87.6 million acres, up 5% from last year. Area for harvest, at 86.7 million acres, is up 5% from 2020.
Acreage planted to corn in Kentucky was estimated at 1.55 million acres, up 60,000 acres from 2020. Acres harvested for grain was estimated at 1.45 million acres, up 70,000 acres from last year. The U.S. corn planted for all purposes in 2021 was estimated at 92.7 million acres, up 2% from last year. Growers expect to harvest 84.5 million acres for grain, up 2% from last year.
Farmers in Kentucky intend to set an estimated 37,000 acres of burley tobacco for harvest. This is unchanged from the 2020 level. Dark fire-cured tobacco acreage set was estimated at 9,100 acres, up 800 acres from the previous year. Dark air-cured tobacco acreage was estimated at 6,700 acres, up 600 from a year ago. Burley producing states acreage for harvest was estimated at 43,450 acres, slightly above last year.
Winter wheat seeded acreage in Kentucky was estimated at 520,000 acres, 10,000 acres above the previous year. Acreage harvested for grain was estimated at 370,000 acres, 30,000 acres above 2020. The U.S. Winter wheat planted area was estimated at 33.7 million acres, up 11% from 2020. Area harvested for grain was forecast at 25.4 million acres, up 11% from last year.
Alfalfa hay acreage in Kentucky was estimated at 135,000 acres, down 10,000 from the 2020 crop. All other hay was estimated at 2.10 million acres, up 50,000 from a year ago. The U.S. all hay acreage was estimated at 51.5 million acres, down 1% from 2020.
