LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Corn production in Kentucky is estimated at 254 million bushels, up 4% from the previous year. This is a record high production, breaking the record set last year and the first time Kentucky production has exceeded 250 million bushels.
Yield is estimated at 184 bushels per acre, up 15 bushels from the 2019 level and a record high yield. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 1.38 million acres, down 70,000 acres from 2019. The U.S. corn production is estimated at 14.2 billion bushels, up 4% from the 2019 estimate. The average yield in the United States is estimated at 172.0 bushels per acre. This is 4.5 bushels above the 2019 average yield. Area harvested for grain is estimated at 82.5 million acres, up 1% from the 2019 acreage.
Soybean production for Kentucky is estimated at 101 million bushels, up 30% from 2019, and the second largest crop on record. Yield is estimated at 55 bushels per acre, up 9.0 bushels from a year ago and a new record. Acreage for harvest as beans is estimated at 1.84 million acres, up 150,000 acres from the previous year. U.S. soybean production is forecast at 4.14 billion bushels, up 16% from last year. The average yield per acre is estimated at 50.2 bushels, up 2.8 bushels from last year. Area harvested is up 10% from 2019 at 82.3 million acres.
Kentucky burley tobacco production is estimated at 72.2 million pounds, down 7% from 2019. Yield is estimated at
1,950 pounds per acre, up 50 pounds from the 2019 crop. Harvested acreage is estimated at 37,000 acres, down 4,000 acres from last year’s crop. For the burley producing states production is estimated at 84.7 million pounds, down 9% from last year. Burley growers harvested 43,310 acres, down 11 % from 2019. Yields were estimated at 1,956 pounds per acre, up 46 pounds from last year.
Production of Kentucky dark fire-cured tobacco is estimated at 20.8 million pounds, down 25% from the previous year. Dark air-cured tobacco production is estimated at 14.3 million pounds, down 20% from last year.
Alfalfa hay production by Kentucky farmers is estimated at 508,000 tons, up 9% the 2019 level. Other hay production is estimated at 4.92 million tons, up 24% from last year.
