GARNETT, Kan. — Friday’s Prospective Plantings report released by USDA/NASS showed a slight increase in Kansas corn acres. The report predicted Kansas farmers will plant 5.2 million acres of corn this year. In 2016, Kansas farmers planted 5.1 million acres of corn and harvested 4.92 million acres–both modern day records. Kansas farmers harvested a record 699 million bushels of corn in 2016.
“Farmers base planting decisions on what is best both agronomically and financially for their farming operations,” Kansas Corn CEO Greg Krissek said. “The Kansas Corn Commission works to build markets for the corn we produce. Key markets for Kansas corn are livestock, ethanol and the exports of corn and products made with corn like red meat, ethanol and DDGS.”
The Kansas Corn Commission is grower-led, grower-elected board that invests the Kansas corn checkoff in the areas of market development, research, education and promotion.
