JUNCTION CITY, Kan. — The Kansas Cattlemen’s Association’s (KCA) 24th Annual Convention and Trade Show will begin on Friday, November 18, 2022. Member policy meetings will start at 1:30 pm at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview in Wichita, Kansas. Doors will open to the public at 8:00am on Saturday, November 19th for the kickoff of the trade show.
The two-day event will include presentations and panels covering numerous topics related to independent cattle production. Guests will take part in discussions regarding animal health and nutrition, ranch and beef promotion, commodity markets, and more. Additionally, the KCA Membership Annual Business meeting and banquet will take place during the event.
Charlie Potts, Supervisory Market Reporter with the United States Department of Agriculture, will provide a presentation discussing the LMR / Cattle Contract Library Pilot. A native of Effingham, Kansas growing up involved in livestock and row crop production. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Kansas State University, he started his USDA career as a Commodity Meat Grader in 2005 with duty stations in Dakota City, NE and Emporia, KS. In March of 2009 he joined the Market News team in Saint Joseph, MO working on Livestock MandatoryReporting Live Cattle and Sheep reports. He resides in Savannah, MO with his wife and four children.
Patrick Robinette, Harris-Robinette Beef, will present on the topic of Alternative Cattle Marketing. Patrick has managed feedlots in North Carolina and Nebraska. He founded Harris-Robinette Beef, a grass-fed, beef cattle operation working to make sustainable beef an affordable option. HRB has expanded to include Micro Summit Processors allowing better control of their slaughter and processing ability, as well as offering USDA inspected slaughter and processing to producers along the east coast.
Dr. Derek Sebastian is the Envu Range and Pasture Territory Manager for western Kansas. He completed his MS and PhD at Colorado State University with his main research focus on the development of new innovative tools for range and pasture, and industrial vegetation management. This includes detailed research and development of tools such as Rejuvra, Esplanade 200 SC, Plainview, Method, and Telar. He continues to focus on innovative tools to increase the efficiency and success of land managers and landowners throughout the west.
KCA has invited representatives of the national trade organizations to discuss their respective associations and policy approaches relevant to independent cattle production. This panel discussion will allow producers to receive a side-by-side comparison of how national issues are tackled by each organization. Prior to this panel discussion Steve Stratford, Stratford Angus and Pratt Livestock, will be providing an Industry and Market Update.
Finally, KCA is excited to announce that impressionist and comedian Mark Staggs will be presenting the ‘Festus Live Comedy Show’ during this year’s convention banquet on Saturday evening.
The presentations and trade show are free and open to the public. The convention will close with an evening social, annual benefit auction, and banquet.
