TRENTON, N.J. — The June Acreage report provides official, survey-based estimates of U.S. farmers’ 2022 planting acreage, according to Bruce Eklund, state statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Jersey Field Office. The estimates of planted and harvested acreages are based primarily on surveys conducted during the first 2 weeks of June.

New Jersey corn harvested for grain is expected to be 67 thousand acres, New Jersey farmers are expected to harvest 108 thousand soybean acres, up 9 thousand acres from last year. The expected 22 thousand wheat harvested acres are up 6 thousand acres from last year’s harvested acres. Hay area harvested is estimated at 110 thousand acres, 14 thousand of those being alfalfa. The expected hay harvested is the highest since 2018.

Corresponding planted acres are:

• Corn planted area for all purposes is estimated at 80 thousand acres, up 3% from last year.
• Soybean planted area is estimated at 110 thousand acres, the highest since 2018.
• Winter Wheat area planted estimate remains at 26 thousand acres, the highest since 2015.

Nationally, soybean planted area for 2022 is estimated at 88.3 million acres, up 1 percent from last year. Corn planted area for all purposes in 2022 is estimated at 89.9 million acres, down 4 percent or 3.44 million acres from last year. All wheat planted area for 2022 is estimated at 47.1 million acres, up 1 percent from 2021. If realized, this represents the fifth lowest all wheat planted area since records began in 1919.
