BROOKINGS, S.D. – SDSU Extension and South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks (GFP) welcome Joseph (Joe) Salvati as the new SDSU Extension 4-H Outdoor Education Program Manager at The Outdoor Campus – Sioux Falls.

This is a new partnership between Extension and GFP. Outdoor Campus Directors David Parker (Sioux Falls) and Lacy Elrod (Rapid City) said in a joint statement they are excited for the opportunity. “Both organizations value nature, wildlife and wise recreation, making these positions and their educational efforts a perfect fit,” they said.

Salvati will work with SDSU Extension’s 4-H program and GFP to create and facilitate programs for Sioux Falls-area schools. Outdoor Education programs teach students about hunting, fishing, and other outdoor skills like nature identification, snowshoeing, and hiking.

A native of Redwood Falls in southwestern Minnesota, Salvati graduated from SDSU with a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Law Enforcement. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman, he is excited to share that knowledge and experience with the students who participate in his programming.

“I hope to provide exciting and educational curriculum about many outdoor skills and conservation to students in the area,” Salvati said.

SDSU Extension 4-H County Operations and Professional Development Program Manager Oakley G. Perry said this will be an exciting partnership between SDSU Extension and GFP, and Salvati has the perfect mix of training and experience to succeed in the role.

“Joe’s experience teaching fishing and hunting programs is extremely valuable as 4-H inspires young people in the Sioux Falls area to get involved in the outdoors,” Perry said. “As an SDSU alumnus, we are excited to have Joe join the 4-H team and work with SDSU in a new way. Joe won’t have just the support of 4-H, but he will be working in partnership with GFP as he teaches young people about outdoor education.”
