JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Do you want to buy your beef, chicken, goat, lamb, pork, and turkey meats from local farmers? What does it cost to buy local meats? Would you like to visit with farmers to learn how they raise their livestock to produce high quality, safe meats? If you have answered yes to any of these questions – join us for this FREE event.
The public is invited to the “Meat” Your Farmer event to be held on Tuesday evening, November 12th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Falcons Nest Banquet Hall, 2001 E. Main Street in Falconer, NY to taste locally produced meat products, visit with area farmers to learn more about their farm businesses and ask questions, and learn more about purchasing meat directly from a local farmer.
The local farms who will be present at this event includes: Browns’ Brown Eggs, Mayville; Calhoun Muddy Acres, Lakewood; Carlberg Farm Livestock, Jamestown; Five Sisters Farm, Perrysburg; Good Grass Farm, Ashville; Green Heron Growers, Panama; David & Sue Ivett, Forestville; I-86 Club Lambs, Kennedy; Mitrowski House Farm, Machias; Moon Meadow Farm, Jamestown, NY; Peterson Farm, Jamestown; Shady Maple Farm, Panama; The Vanstrom Homestead, Kennedy; Toboggan Hill Farm, Westfield; Town Line Livestock, Perrysburg, NY; Valley View Farms, Machias; and Walker’s Beef Farm, Kennedy.
There will be some individual cuts of frozen meats available for purchase and opportunities to discuss purchasing larger quantities from the farmers attending, at this event.
This event is co-sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County, the Chautauqua County Beef Producers, and local farmers who raise livestock and market meats directly from their farm to the consumer. The food will be prepared by 3 C’s Catering of Kennedy.
The public is asked to make a reservation with the number planning to attend by contacting Lisa Kempisty at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County at 716-664-9502, Ext 203 or by e-mail at ljk4@cornell.edu. Reservations are requested (but not required) by November 10th to accurately plan for the amount of meats to prepare for tasting.
The schedule for the evening will be as follows:
- 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Public welcome to taste local meats prepared by 3 C’s Catering & meet farmers to learn about their farm and products offered. Cheese & crackers, a vegetable tray and beverages will also be provided – all FREE of charge to the public.
- 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm: “Building a relationship with your farmer – what consumers need to know about buying meats directly from farms” presented by local livestock producers Ted Card, Matt Harper & Joe Osborne.
- 7:30 pm – 8:00 pm: “Communicating with the slaughterhouse about your meat cuts” presented by Barry VanOrd with Coffaro’s Custom Butchering.
- 8:00 – 8:30 pm: Opportunity to ask questions and visit with local farmers.
This event will allow consumers to learn more about purchasing high quality, nutritious meats directly from a local farmer. Plan to join us to learn more!
