Program Support Technician                                                            #01427 – Warrenton

(Administrative and Office Specialist III, Pay Band 3)

 

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Animal and Food Industry Services, is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Program Support Technician for the Office of Dairy and Foods’ Food Safety Program. Duties include: Receiving, reviewing and processing incoming daily correspondence; composing correspondence for distribution to internal staff as well as the food industry; maintaining both automated and manual records management systems; processing expense and travel vouchers; maintaining office equipment and supplies; responding to inquiries from clients; completing reports, projects and other tasks as requested; and performing all necessary administrative and clerical duties related to food safety and inspection activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of office practices, procedures, and office equipment; of a variety of manual and automated document management systems; of standard grammar, punctuation, and usage; of basic bookkeeping principles; and of effective customer service techniques. Must be proficient in Windows OS, Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat DC, as well as e-mail and internet usage. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment; interpret and follow oral and written instructions and regulations; manage multiple priorities; collect, assemble, and process information; organize work and maintain office documents and supplies; effectively plan and organize work activities; make independent decisions; and independently compose documents, spreadsheets, and other correspondence. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with customer, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. Current/recent experience in a professional or regulatory office to include providing customer service and administrative support that involves procuring supplies, maintaining supply inventory, and processing expense and travel vouchers. H.S. Diploma or equivalent is required. Prefer: Additional coursework in a business related curriculum along with related administrative policies and procedures in a government office to include using eVA for procuring equipment and supplies. General knowledge of food safety issues, food laws and regulations is also preferred, but not required as long as the selected applicant has the ability to learn and understand them. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience. Hiring Salary Range: $29,772 – $47,000 annually. Excellent State Benefits.
