AFIS Project Coordinator (DVM) #W0180 – Harrisonburg
(Vet Tech II/Veterinarian I, Pay Band 5)
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Animal and Food Industry Services (AFIS), is seeking a veterinarian to serve as a wage Project Coordinator for the planning and expansion of laboratory space at the Harrisonburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory. This position will assist AFIS leadership by providing recommendations and guidance as well as providing input on current veterinary laboratory abilities and capacities, lab functionality, lab safety, workflow, and building requirements for particular testing needs. The Project Coordinator will work with the Office of Laboratory Services (OLS) Program Manager to help organize and track the deliverables that will be due from AFIS during the planning and construction of the project and will also be responsible for coordinating communications between AFIS leadership and the project management team during the planning and construction periods.
The selected individual will work out of the Harrisonburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory. Hours are varied depending on project activity, but can be expected to range from 0 to 20 hours per week. The duration of this position will last until completion of the project which may take up to five years.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a degree in Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine or certification by the AVMA Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates. Requires knowledge of and skills in veterinary medicine and laboratory procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory facilities and workflow. Experience in the management of veterinary laboratories. Experience in the planning of laboratory building and expansion. Experience in managing budgets for diagnostic laboratories. Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills, with effective strong written and oral communication skills. Experience with regulatory veterinary medicine. Prefer: Familiarity with ISO 17025 accreditation standards. Pay: $62.00 per hour.
The final candidate must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check. This position is paid on an hourly basis; is limited to working no more than 1500 hours per year beginning each May; and does not include benefits.
