NOTICE OF VACANCY
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
Date of Issue: 01/10/19. The work involves responsibility for completing difficult sub-professional
engineering assignments within the Tioga County Soil & Water Conservation District. Through the
skilled use of various software programs or systems, the incumbent works closely with a professional
engineer to carry out work duties and district projects. Duties include, but are not limited to,
computation work, technical writing, design and detailing of engineering drawings, construction
engineering, assisting with site surveys, record keeping, and project estimating. Work projects
involve agriculture, stream, or wetland construction projects. The incumbent works under the
direct supervision of the District Manager. Does related work as required.
The title of Environmental Engineering Technician is Competitive, requiring applicants to meet
minimum qualifications established for the position and successfully meet civil service examination
requirements. An examination is anticipated for 2019. Permanent appointment will be
dependent upon participation in the examination AND being reachable from the resulting eligible
list.
Status: Provisional
Work Hours: Full time; 40-hour work week
Salary: $30,000 – $35,000; benefit package includes: health insurance, paid leave time, NYS Retirement

Minimum Qualifications: Either:
a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
with an Bachelorās Degree in Civil Engineering technology or a closely related field; OR
b) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
with an Associateās Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and two (2) years of
full-time paid experience or its part-time equivalent in the field of surveying and design; OR
c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of a) and
b)
Special Requirement: Possession of an appropriate class New York State driverās license at the time
of appointment and throughout duration of employment.
