WATERTOWN, N.Y. — 4-H Youth in Jefferson County competed against their peers from neighboring counties in the North Country 4-H Regional Dairy Bowl on Saturday, March 12th. The 4-H Dairy Bowl is a quiz bowl-style competition that tests youth knowledge of dairy cows and the dairy industry in a friendly, fun competition. Youth may enter to compete in one of three different division levels novice, junior, or senior, depending on their age, knowledge, and experience. Each team is made up of 3-4 youth and the overall highest scoring individuals from the competition move on to State and from there possibly National competitions.
Representing Jefferson County in this year’s competition were four senior-level competitors Elizabeth Hyman, Garrett Phelps, Garrett Hyman, and Wyatt Phelps. All four 4-H youth took home blue ribbons as the first-place senior team!
In addition, Elizabeth Hyman was the top-scoring individual for the event, earning a total of 16 points for her team! Also competing was Jefferson County 4-H’er Charles Hyman, who competed as a member of the winning Junior division team. Charles also placed as the top-scoring individual in the Junior Division!
Both Charles and Elizabeth Hyman will be moving on to compete in the State 4-H Dairy Bowl Competition at Cornell University on April 23rd!
