OLYMPIA, Wash. — January 1, 2023 all cattle inventory in Alaska was estimated at 18,000 head, unchanged from 2022. All cattle inventory in Idaho was estimated at 2.50 million head, down 2 percent from 2022. Inventory of all cattle in Oregon was 1.24 million head, down 1 percent from last year. In Washington, all cattle inventory totaled 1.17 million head, up 3 percent from January 1, 2022.
Nationally, January 1 all cattle inventory was estimated at 89.3 million head. This was down 3 percent from January 1, 2022. The 2022 calf crop, at the US level, was estimated at 34.5 million head, down 2 percent from 2021.
